Amendment to the Ordinance on Sanctions against certain Persons from the Ivory Coast
International sanctions
The Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research EAER has amended the Appendix / Appendices to the Ordinance.
The Ordinance of 19 January 2005 on Sanctions against the Ivory Coast (SR 946.231.13, "Ordinance on Sanctions") contains in its Appendix the names of the persons on whom sanctions were imposed by the UN. In addition to the Ordinance on Sanctions, the Federal Council on 19 January 2011 issued the Ordinance on Sanctions against certain Persons from the Ivory Coast (SR 946.231.128.9, "Blocking Ordinance").
The Blocking Ordinance freezes the assets of the former President Laurent Gbagbo and his entourage in Switzerland. Until now it had not been possible to include in the Ordinance on Sanctions a series of UN resolutions that were made since the Blocking Ordinance came into force, as this would have led to duplication of the Blocking Ordinance. Due to the fact that, on 22 January 2013, the list of names in the Blocking Ordinance was reduced to just four persons, it became possible to amend the Appendix to the Ordinance on Sanctions. Specifically, five additional persons were added to the Appendix to the Ordinance on Sanctions.
