New Ordinance on Sanctions against Syria
The Federal Council adopted an Ordinance on Sanctions against Syria on 18 May 2011. By doing so, Switzerland falls in line with the sanctions imposed by the European Union on Syria on 9 May 2011. The Ordinance came into force on 19 May 2011. Article 2 of the Ordinance provides for the blocking of funds and financial resources. The affected persons, companies and organisations are listed in the Appendix. The list currently contains the names of 13 natural persons. The Ordinance is available for consultation on the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) website.
In accordance with the provisions of the Ordinance on sanctions against Syria, financial intermediaries are requested to report relevant business relationships to SECO and to block the associated assets.
